While die-hard classical music fans may tend to regard Johann Strauss’s works as light music, listening to this recording will undoubtedly make them realize that this is unquestionably a work of art that will endure for generations to come. The vibrant Johann Strauss music—which makes it hard to believe he would give up conducting by the end of that same year—conversely evokes a sense of melancholy.
