Furthermore, the album demonstrates—through the form of a lute and vihuela duet—the hypothesis that improvisational ornamentation was likely also practiced in choral performances of secular music. With duets studded with brilliant ornamentation, the album recreates through instrumental music how chansons were sung in those days.\nThe performance features four musicians—Toru Sakurada, who studied under Toyohiko Sato, and Misako Takano and Yukio Akiyama, who both studied under Sato—divided into two duos.\n\nIncludes Japanese liner notes!
