Possessing rare versatility and a sincere musicality, Mlová has continually expanded her musical horizons, ranging from Baroque and Classical music to Brazilian music, fusion, and contemporary music, including experimental works. Her landmark first release on Signum is a collection of Beethoven’s violin sonatas (PONYX4221 \/ Selected by the BBC Music Magazine’s “Chamber Choice”), and now she presents Schubert in collaboration with Alastair Beatson (Alasdair Beatson)—a Scottish pianist, fortepianist, and chamber musician who has maintained a brilliant career—who previously delivered a superb recording of Beethoven’s Violin Sonatas!\n\nThe instrument used is the renowned Italian instrument by G.B. Guadagni, which garnered much attention in his series of Bach recordings (Sonata Collection [OONYX4020] and Unaccompanied Sonatas \u0026amp; Partitas [OONYX4040])—a combination of gut strings and a classical bow. The fortepiano is a replica of a 1819 Graf instrument crafted by Paul McNulty. This recording features a performance on historical instruments—still a rarity for Schubert—and includes three works spanning the composer’s final decade.
