A composer and pianist who studied under Theodor Leschetizky, he is particularly known as Prokofiev’s teacher.\n“Poem of Ecstasy” and “Sacred Poem” feature arrangements by the renowned Léon Konus (1871–1944). A pupil of Arensky, he was a classmate of Rachmaninoff and Scriabin at the Moscow Conservatory, and was instrumental in introducing the traditions of the Russian piano school to Western Europe and the United States.\nVasily Karafaty (1869–1942), who arranged “The Devil’s Poem,” was a student of Rimsky-Korsakov and is remembered to this day as one of Russia’s most important musicologists.\nFurthermore, Leonid Sabaneev (1881–1968), the arranger of “Prometheus,” was a student of Taneyev and Rimsky-Korsakov.
