In 1987, she co-founded the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra (FBO) with Gottfried von der Goltz and served as co-artistic director (and concertmistress) for 30 years, developing it into one of the world’s premier early music orchestras. Even after handing the baton of music director to Christian Bezaidenhout during the 2017–18 season—which marked the ensemble’s 30th anniversary—she has continued to perform as a member. In addition to her active involvement in chamber music—including the Freiburg Baroque Consort, an ensemble composed of FBO members—she boasts a brilliantly diverse repertoire, performing and recording klezmer, tango, czardas, and jazz with the group “Hot \u0026amp; Cool.” She currently serves as a professor of Baroque violin at the Freiburg University of Music and the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts.\n\nPetra Mülejans’ Bach album, which captivates listeners with her lustrous Baroque violin tone and emotional rhythms, features two violin sonatas with basso continuo and a collection of six violin sonatas with obbligato harpsichord. Just like the famous works for unaccompanied violin and unaccompanied cello, these masterpieces—composed during Bach’s time in Köthen—were recorded at the palace associated with Bach (Schloss Köthen, which is now also one of the venues for the Köthen Bach Festival), the former residence of the Prince of Anhalt-Köthen. The harpsichord is played by Sabine Bauer, a founding member of Camerata Köln.
