After studying composition with Kerloiter—a leading figure in the Brazilian compositional scene—in Rio de Janeiro, he moved to the United States at the invitation of Copland and studied at Tanglewood, Juilliard, and other institutions. After briefly returning to Brazil, he studied under Berklee at the Royal Academy of Music in the United Kingdom. Upon his return to Brazil, he continued composing while also serving as conductor of a radio orchestra and director of music programs, where he introduced the latest trends from Europe and the United States, thereby influencing the Brazilian music scene. His compositional style evolved through serialism and neoclassicism toward a fusion of tradition and the avant-garde, allowing listeners to enjoy a variety of expressions depending on the period in which the works were composed. This album features six works, among which “Cantikum Naturale” stands out as one of Kriegel’s masterpieces, a sonic depiction of the vast Amazon. “Fanfare and Sequence,” a world premiere recording, is a short piece of about five minutes accompanied by a choir. It is performed amid a call-and-response between three trumpets and four horns. “Variacoes Elementares” (Variations on Elementary Elements) is a work consisting of ten variations based on a short melody used as a motif. The music evolves while making full use of 17th-century polyphony. Additionally, “Three Images of Nova Friburgo” is a commissioned work from the city of Nova Friburgo, located in the mountainous region of the state of Rio de Janeiro. Written for string orchestra and harpsichord, it is a work that demands sophisticated instrumental techniques, such as special string playing techniques.\nThe performance is by the Goiás Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Neil Thomson, a familiar figure in the Brazilian Music Series.\nNaxos Japan\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Naxos","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":53374642225441,"sku":"4945604744089","price":2421.0,"currency_code":"JPY","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0568\/8482\/2076\/files\/4945604744089.jpg?v=1787632155","url":"https:\/\/cdsvinyljapan.com\/products\/4945604744089","provider":"CDs Vinyl Japan Store","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
