In the fall of the same year, Dvořák visited England again to perform \"Stabat Mater,\" and the relationship between Dvořák and England grew stronger until he was commissioned to write a choral work for the Leeds Music Festival in 1886. Dvořák's choice of subject matter for this work was the real-life saint \"Ludmilla of Bohemia,\" who lived in the late 9th century. She was the wife of King Bořivoj I, who unified the Czech Republic, and was a patroness of Czech Catholics who was instrumental in the state's acceptance of Greek Orthodoxy and the conversion of its people. Dvořák adapted her story into a magnificent oratorio from a libretto by the poet Jaroslav Wulfritsky, which he performed in London to great acclaim. It is a great work overflowing with rich melodic beauty that represents the pinnacle of Dvořák's creativity.
