An admirer of Franz Liszt and an accomplished pianist, Busoni developed an early interest in \"transcriptions\" and transformed many of his works into brilliant piano compositions. A representative work is the \"Bach Chaconne\" of 1884, which, with its dense sound and gorgeous ornamentation, has a romantic air and is known as a pianistic piece in the tradition of Liszt's series of transcriptions. However, the \"Short Sonatina in the Name of the Great Johann Sebastian,\" written almost 30 years after the original \"Fantasy and Fugue in D minor . BWV 905\" (which is doubtful to be an authentic work by Bach), and is a contemplative work, with intricate harmonies that are also avant-garde. The \"Ten Chorale Preludes,\" which transfers the strict counterpoint to the piano, are also worth listening to.
