The fourth installment in the reprint series of the Complete Symphonies, previously released by MARCO POLO, is a combination of his masterpieces from his middle period, Symphonies Nos. 7 and 8. The Eighth, the largest of his symphonies, was written between 1955 and 1956. It is dedicated to the memory of Moises' daughter Marta, who died young. The pastoral first movement has an impressive melody derived from a Slovak folk song. After the meditative beauty of the third movement, the heart of the piece, the final movement depicts strength overcoming fate. No. 8, written 14 years later, is a heavy work reminiscent of Shostakovich. Overcoming sorrow and lamentation, it ends with a grand finale.
