After all, his well-known works—such as *The Breasts of Tiresias*, his ballet music, and his chamber music—are widely praised for being straightforward, witty, and brimming with “esprit.” However, when it comes to his religious works, the tone shifts completely, with a series of serious and profound pieces such as *Dialogues of the Carmelites*. He himself cherished his choral and religious works so deeply that he said, “I poured the best part of myself—that which belongs to my true self—into them.” Among the choral works included on this album, the “Seven Songs” are short pieces based on texts by contemporary poets such as Apollinaire and Éluard, which speak to the subtleties of life. The other three works are sacred pieces, and all of them—including the “Mass in G Major,” dedicated to his father—are generally regarded as having been inspired by his grief over the accidental death of his friend Pierre-Octave Ferru (1936) and by shifts in his own emotional state. Of course, since these pieces were written during this era, they make frequent use of dissonance; yet, the sense of gentleness that gently envelops the listener in each one may be due to the crystalline voices of the Elora Festival Singers.\nNaxos Japan\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Naxos","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":53595532853537,"sku":"4945604729789","price":2690.0,"currency_code":"JPY","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0568\/8482\/2076\/files\/4945604729789.jpg?v=1790481522","url":"https:\/\/cdsvinyljapan.com\/products\/4945604729789","provider":"CDs Vinyl Japan Store","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
