While this second volume of his violin sonatas was published in 1827, the score contains many passages that are quite challenging to perform, and it seems to have posed a real challenge for performers. Above all, while some pieces from Volume 1 can be performed on the flute, this Volume 2 contains numerous techniques that can only be executed on the violin. Although Leclair met an unfortunate end, all of his works are brimming with an elegant beauty that fully capitalizes on the richly singing qualities of the strings.
