He also holds degrees in psychology and sociology, and is active not only as a composer but also as a teacher. This collection of symphonies seems to explore the sources of his inspiration, and with the exception of No. 2, all are world premiere recordings. Symphony No. 9, “Tarassa,” is named after a mythological goddess; it uses medieval melodies as its material, coloring them with meticulously crafted tonal textures. Symphony No. 8, meanwhile, features movements named after “mythical continents,” each depicted with the rhythms of lively dance pieces.
