Although he studied under Penderecki and Boulanger, the influence of Shostakovich is clearly evident in his String Quartet No. 11, which is written in a single movement. The Ninth String Quartet, divided into five movements, evokes a pleasant (?) sensation with its dizzyingly shifting tempos, while his most recent work, the Twelfth String Quartet, is divided into nine sections that are intricately interwoven. The fragmented melodies interweave with one another; while they do not resonate as beautifully as in Classical or Romantic music, the intricate polyphony seems to take root deep within the human senses with its stimulating sound. Here lies one form of contemporary music.
Naxos Japan

Tracklisting:

.String Quartet No. 9, Op. 74: Agitato
.String Quartet No. 9, Op. 74: Calmo
.String Quartet No. 9, Op. 74: Con vigore
.String Quartet No. 9, Op. 74: Misterioso
.String Quartet No. 9, Op. 74: Vivo
.String Quartet No. 11, Op. 95
.String Quartet No. 12, Op. 103: Lento
.String Quartet No. 12, Op. 103: Con ira
.String Quartet No. 12, Op. 103: Vivo
.String Quartet No. 12, Op. 103: Dolente
.String Quartet No. 12, Op. 103: Furioso
.String Quartet No. 12, Op. 103: Largo
.String Quartet No. 12, Op. 103: Adagio
.String Quartet No. 12, Op. 103: Prestissimo
.String Quartet No. 12, Op. 103: Appassionato
