The first piece, \"Two Sad Melodies,\" was originally arranged from a song, and the melody of \"Spring\" (春) is particularly well known, as it is often played at funerals in Norway. The original lyrics of the song are a prayer of thanksgiving to the landscape and the warm sunlight as an old man welcomes his last spring before departing this life. All the other songs are a bit heartbreaking, evoking the rich nature of Scandinavia.
