The “Fantasia on a Theme by Rossini” begins with a fierce tarantella, moves through a sentimental middle section, and concludes with a stormy finale. A brilliant *Passione Amorosa* and a concerto that is incredibly cool—even with piano accompaniment. The Grand Duet is performed in its original version for two double basses alone.
