The trios, arranged from his Septets, were premiered in 1799 and performed at a charity concert in 1800, where they were presented alongside works by Mozart and Haydn and reportedly received an immediate and enthusiastic response. Due to its immense popularity, various arrangements began to circulate, prompting Beethoven himself—concerned about “copyright infringement” (though the term didn’t exist at the time)—to urge his publisher to release the work as soon as possible. (That said, he had been making such arrangements himself…) The other piece is a famous work known as “The Town Song.” It is a masterpiece packed with rich music within a concise form, and when performed with the clarinet’s lustrous tone, it takes on a whole new flavor. Volume 1 (8.557723), Volume 2 (8.557724), and Volume 3 (8.570255) are also now available and receiving great reviews!
Naxos Japan

Tracklisting:

1.Piano Trio No. 8 for piano, clarinet and cello, Op. 38: Adagio - Allegro con brio
2.Piano Trio No. 8 for piano, clarinet and cello, Op. 38: Adagio cantabile
3.Piano Trio No. 8 for piano, clarinet and cello, Op. 38: Tempo di Menuetto
4.Piano Trio No. 8 for piano, clarinet and cello, Op. 38: Tema con variazioni: Andante
5.Piano Trio No. 8 for piano, clarinet and cello, Op. 38: Scherzo: Allegro molto e vivace
6.Piano Trio No. 8 for piano, clarinet and cello, Op. 38: Andante con moto alla marcia - Presto
7.Piano Trio No. 4 for piano, clarinet and cello, Op. 11 "Gassenhauer": Allegro con brio
8.Piano Trio No. 4 for piano, clarinet and cello, Op. 11 "Gassenhauer": Adagio
9.Piano Trio No. 4 for piano, clarinet and cello, Op. 11 "Gassenhauer": Allegretto
