Ornamentation and accompaniment are fine as long as they don’t stray from the main theme. However, one could also say that this actually puts the performers’ artistic sensibilities to the test. These Sonatas Nos. 9 through 12 also feature highly versatile musical ideas, with the slow and fast movements presenting a striking contrast—and the effect is truly breathtaking.
