NAXOS presents her String Quartet No. 2 as the main work, along with works by her mentor, Sowerby, in what is a typically NAXOS American Classics disc. In 2021, the third movement of her Symphony No. 3 was performed at the BBC Proms, in 2022 her albums of Symphonies No. 1 and No. 3 won a Grammy, and in 2023 the Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra performed the Japanese premiere of \"The Shadow of Ethiopia in America. In 2023, \"Ethiopian Shadows in America\" will be premiered in Japan by the Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra, bringing her into the international limelight. Many of her works have remained unpublished since her death, and their true value and full scope are still to be discovered. Leo Sowerby had gained international renown, winning the American Academy of Arts and Sciences' Rome Prize and the Pulitzer Prize. Both Price and Sowerby were members of the Chicago music community in the 1930s and 1940s and were known to respect each other's work. This album contains string quartets by both.Price's \"Negro Folk Songs in Counterpoint,\" placed last, is a work that boldly incorporates African-derived rhythms and black spirituals based on five folk melodies. In particular, the second melody in particular, \"Hymn to the Snowy Mountains,\" has probably been heard by everyone. (Naxos Japan) Contents 1-4.
