The two works on this album are so similar in mood that the sophisticated orchestration stands out and the 15-year gap in compositional age is not at all apparent. The \"Color Wheel,\" written to commemorate the centennial of the Philadelphia Orchestra, is an ingenious work that highlights the virtuosity of each section of the orchestra, making it a work that allows each group of instruments, rather than soloists, to interact with each other. 2018's \"Symphony No. 4 Symphony No. 4\" was written in the 21st century in an attempt to include the entire world in the symphony, which can be said to be \"outdated\" in the 21st century. The title \"Chromelodeon\" is derived from the name of a cult rock band active in the late 1960s and from the name of an instrument invented by Harry Partch, but Kernis has taken this title to mean \"colorful and melodious music played by an orchestra\" and created a completely new kind of music. Kernis has created a completely new kind of music. The third movement also takes a bold approach, using Handel quotations.
