She became famous in 1955 when she refused to give up her seat to a white person on a bus in Alabama and was arrested for violating racial segregation laws. This incident sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Rokunbe composed this music of prayer for her and for all people. It is a large-scale work requiring two choirs, four soloists, and a full orchestra. Elements of blues, jazz, African music, and gospel are woven throughout, and each soloist is given a distinct role. This recording faithfully captures the audience’s enthusiastic gasps and applause after each piece.
Naxos Japan

Tracklisting:

1.Dear Mrs. Parks, oratorio: A Prayer for the World; The Over Soul Sends to Us
2.Dear Mrs. Parks, oratorio: A Prayer for the World
3.Dear Mrs. Parks, oratorio: For We Have Walked the Streets of Babylon, Forty Thousand Strong
4.Dear Mrs. Parks, oratorio: In Sacrifice
5.Dear Mrs. Parks, oratorio: For the Future
6.Dear Mrs. Parks, oratorio: Seeds of the World
7.Dear Mrs. Parks, oratorio: Songs from Heaven Falling
8.Dear Mrs. Parks, oratorio: Like Luminous Rain Upon the Daughters of Isis
9.Dear Mrs. Parks, oratorio: Giving Their Children the Will to Continue
10.Dear Mrs. Parks, oratorio: Singing a Prayer for the Souls of the World
