Amid the beauty of its epic scale and passages reminiscent of a silvery world locked in ice, the work is interspersed with courtly-style dance movements and brilliant orchestral passages full of dramatic effect, reminiscent of Sibelius, Borodin, and Rimsky-Korsakov.
