This was a very important period for Kreisler, who had lived a comfortable life in his new home in Berlin since the 1920s, but with the rise of the Nazis in 1933, he could no longer lead a stable life and eventually moved to Paris in 1938 and then in 1943 He became an American citizen and never returned to Europe. However, he was still able to afford to do so by the time the Berlin recording included in this album was made. A month before this recording was made, he performed Bach and Tchaikovsky at the Royal Albert Hall in London to great acclaim. The recording on this album is a re-recording of the performance that could not be recorded in New York, made in 1930 at the HMV in Berlin. The 1935 recording features Kreisler performing his own quartet with members chosen by Kreisler himself (among them the renowned viola player William Primrose).Also included as a bonus track is an acoustic recording of Bizet's \"Adagietto\" from 1924.
