The two Bruckner recordings on the old EMI label, \"Romantic\" recorded in 1981 with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and \"No. 8\" recorded in 1982 with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, are now available on SACD! This is the first digital SACD project of old EMI recordings with new commentary! A new SACD project focusing on the digital recording period of about 20 years from the early 1980s, which is one of the peak periods in the history of recordings, has started. Among the many masterpieces, the popular Tennstedt recordings will be featured first. These recordings are the two Bruckner recordings Tennstedt made for the former EMI as session recordings, the profound \"No. 4\" with the Berlin Philharmonic and \"No. 8\" with the London Philharmonic, both of which are well known for their excellent performances. The SACD version has been newly mastered from the digital master in the original country for this release, with separate mastering for the SACD and CD layers. New commentary is included.Although Tennstedt is generally known as a Mahler conductor, he has in fact performed Bruckner's Symphony No. 8 with the Boston Symphony Orchestra in 1974, when it was a great success. However, there are other recordings of the orchestra's performances of the Eighth Symphony on the BBC's live recordings and on the independent recordings made with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Since there are no recordings of some pieces even after the middle period, unlike Mahler, it is uncertain whether he performed all the pieces, but he performed Bruckner in various places (he also performed Bruckner on his debut with the Berlin Philharmonic). The Berlin Philharmonic recorded Bruckner No. 4 in 1981, and it was good news that another conductor recorded Bruckner at the height of Karajan's career, as the Berlin Philharmonic had been recording almost exclusively with DG and EMI since the stereo recording period. However, EMI recorded the same piece with Muti in 1984 (and No. 6 in 1988), and in the 1980s, TELDEC recorded the complete works with Barenboim, showing the expansion of the orchestra.Although Tennstedt had already performed with the Berlin Philharmonic many times before, he gave a thorough performance here as if he had exerted all his strength, and while there were moments when he left the orchestra to its own devices in a uniquely thick sound, it was a masterful performance with a unique sense of freedom and propulsiveness. The following year's recording of No. 8 was a session recording with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, which was already well on track with Mahler recordings at the time, but the performance was characterized by passion and enthusiasm, and the balance and tone were different from the Berlin Philharmonic. It is interesting to note the depth of feeling for the music, and the dense Tennstedt-like sound that is created even more thoroughly. It is rare to hear a performance like this, which frankly makes one wish to hear it with other orchestras. These two early digital recordings by EMI have now been brought up to date with the latest high quality sound. The mastering has been done back to the original digital master in the country of origin.
