Levanon began playing the piano at the age of three and made his stage debut at four; at five he won Israel's national piano competition, and at six he took his first gold medal at an international piano competition in the United States and performed at Carnegie Hall in New York. At seven he appeared with the Israel Chamber Orchestra, and he has collected numerous prizes since. More recently he has appeared on prestigious stages and at festivals in France, Germany, Israel and Latvia, performed with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande in Geneva, and given concerts at the Fondation Louis Vuitton and the Auditorium de Radio France in Paris and at the Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg.\n\nCommenting on the signing, Levanon says: \"I am very excited to become part of Warner Classics. I feel I have been welcomed by an outstanding and generous team of professionals who care about me both as an artist and as a person.\"\n\nThe album's title, A Monument for Beethoven, refers to the events surrounding the erection of a monumental bronze statue to mark the 75th anniversary of Beethoven's birth in 1845. Statues of cultural figures were unusual in the nineteenth century, and the project came close to being abandoned for lack of funds until four composers, Liszt foremost among them, threw themselves into fundraising - Liszt in particular contributing a great deal, including from his own pocket. The monument, the work of the sculptor Ernst Julius Hähnel, was duly completed and unveiled at a grand ceremony on 12 August 1845.\n\nLevanon performs music by Liszt together with works by Schumann and Mendelssohn, both of whom supported the project and wrote music to help raise funds. He has already performed this programme in concert to considerable acclaim.\n\nThe Beethoven monument in Bonn was temporarily removed for restoration in January 2022 and returned to its original site in the summer of 2022.
