The 1985 film *Document: Akira Kurosawa A.K.* is a documentary that closely follows the filming of the epic *Ran*, directed by the master Akira Kurosawa and starring Tatsuya Nakadai. Set against the backdrop of the harsh filming conditions at the foot of Mount Fuji, the film portrays Kurosawa’s relentless determination to incorporate even natural phenomena like fog and wind into his direction, as well as his commitment to capturing the perfect moment on camera, presenting a portrait of “AK” as an artist. Filmed during the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, *The Mysterious Kumiko* is a work that engages in an inner dialogue with Kumiko Muraoka, a Japanese woman Marker encountered by chance on the streets of Tokyo as the city underwent rapid modernization. Marker captures the loneliness and views on life and death held by the Japanese people of that era, as well as the changing urban landscape, through his signature poetic narration and pop-style editing. The lost landscapes of the Showa era, the creative core of a master filmmaker, and Marker’s “eye” that captivates viewers across generations. These two masterpieces, where image and word beautifully intertwine, are finally released on Blu-ray for the first time in Japan! “The Mysterious Kumiko” utilizes the latest 2K restored master.
