He studied composition with Adolphus Skulte at the Latvian Academy of Music and chose to base his activities in his native Liepāja, between the sea and a lake, rather than in the capital Riga, which was also the center of Latvian culture. He composed mainly orchestral and choral works, but also left chamber music and organ works.\" The three \"Diaphonies,\" named after the opposite of \"Symphony\" (dissonance), are three-movement works for piano and orchestra. No. 1 is the official premiere of this recording. Nos. 2 and 3 have been performed in the past and are presented here for the first time in a recording.
