Alongside well-known works by Poulenc and Beethoven, it includes unaccompanied music by the Dutch composer Julius Röntgen, a composer Sahara has explored over many years.\n\n\"This is the eagerly awaited new recording from Atsuko Sahara, one of Japan's finest violinists: a player of assured technique and of an exhilarating forward drive that keeps the music continually rising. Joining her in the Poulenc, full of esprit, and in that supreme masterpiece the Beethoven sonata, I shared in her startling sharpness and rich musicianship, and played with a real sense of happiness. And then the intensely romantic Röntgen of the Netherlands, a jewel of a repertoire that Atsuko Sahara has made her own over many years.\" Takehiko Yamada (from the liner notes)\n\nAtsuko Sahara\nA graduate of the Music High School attached to the Tokyo University of the Arts and of the university itself, she completed her master's degree in violin there. She won first prize at the Uralsk International Violin Competition in 2004. She appears in recitals and at festivals throughout Japan as well as in England, Scotland, the United States, India and Kazakhstan. She has released \"Atsuko Sahara: Works for Violin \u0026amp; Piano\" on the British label Quartz and \"Julius Röntgen: Chamber Music Vol. 1\" on Toccata Classics, and has given the Japanese premieres of works by Röntgen. She has also been active in contemporary music, taking part while still a student in the Lucerne Festival Academy under the direction of the late Pierre Boulez; the quartet recording in which she took part, \"Satoshi Minami: Second Air...\", was named a Critics' Choice by Record Geijutsu.
