While the original instrument in India has long since disappeared, in Myanmar it has survived unchanged for thousands of years. This recording offers a full 76 minutes to savor the playing of Inle Min Maung, a master of the Burmese harp, the Saung Daw. The saung gaw is also used to accompany classical songs, and this album features a duo recording with the female singer Yi Yi Than, whose singing evokes a dignified, Asian lyricism. The recording itself took place in 2000 in Yangon, then the capital. Inle Min Maung passed away the following year, making this recording one of the last from this master musician.
