After playing with top country musicians, including the country music duo The Blue Sky Boys (1935-75), he left the Mountaineers in 1939 to form the bluegrass\/old-time music band, The Hired Hands, with Snuffy. The two continued to work as a tag-team until 1990, and produced many great performances as a truly great duo.
