Born in Stockholm, he majored in violin at the Royal College of Music while also taking private lessons in composition. Beginning in 1890, while still a student, he also worked as a violinist at the Royal Opera. He subsequently studied violin and conducting in Germany, France, and Belgium. Upon his return to Sweden in 1910, he was appointed music director at Uppsala University and also enjoyed a distinguished career as a conductor, serving for 37 years as the conductor of the Orpheus Drenger, one of the world’s leading male choirs. As a composer, he continued to write beautiful, lyrical works throughout his life until 1960 without ever abandoning the rich, late-Romantic style, even as he witnessed two world wars. This album, the fourth in Łukasz Borowicz’s complete recording series, features Alwen’s Symphony No. 5—his final symphony—along with the brilliant “Festive Overture,” which humorously incorporates songs from the Scania region, and the “Andante Religioso,” which draws on parts of a cantata and exudes a devout beauty. This recording fully captures the charm of these works.\nNaxos Japan\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"CPO","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":54004511867169,"sku":"4589538836351","price":3590.0,"currency_code":"JPY","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0568\/8482\/2076\/files\/4589538836351.jpg?v=1792686154","url":"https:\/\/cdsvinyljapan.com\/products\/4589538836351","provider":"CDs Vinyl Japan Store","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
