After an illness interrupted his studies at the Polytechnic Institute, he decided to devote himself to music and studied at the Paris Conservatory under Jules Massenet and Gabriel Fauré. While working as a composer, he also contributed to the promotion of the music of his time by founding a musical association with Ravel and Florent Schmidt. In addition to training many composers as a teacher, he was also known for his diverse activities as a stereoscope photographer and as a writer, including a biography of Gabriel Fauré. He left four symphonies, and the Symphony No. 1 on this album, which is a development of his String Quartet No. 2 into an orchestral work, won the Halfen Prize in 1937. Other symphonies include the Seven Stars Symphony (CAPRICCIO C5449) from 1933, The Symphony of Hymns from 1936, and the Second Symphony, composed during World War II. Kecklan's works can be described as being in the vein of French music of the time, but with a unique perspective and form. In addition, the symphonic poem \"Far Away\" was originally composed for chor anglais and piano in 1896 and later arranged for orchestra. Although he was not much interested in operas, he was interested in vocal works and composed about 100 songs, many of which he arranged for orchestral accompaniment. The \"Three Romances\" on the album, with the exception of \"Hummingbird,\" were arranged by the composer himself and sung by Patricia Petibon in her beautiful and brilliant voice.\n\nRecording Keklan's symphony required finding, editing, and organizing the score into playable material, a process that took Ariane Matiak a year and a half. Ariane Matiak also said that it was a challenge to find an orchestra willing to learn the work and to secure recording opportunities.
