No. 31 was first published as a sonata for violin and piano, but the presence of a cello part in later editions suggests that Haydn conceived it as a trio. Lastly placed was \"Trance,\" written by Sally Beamish for Trio Gaspard, a meditative five-and-a-half-minute work on the theme of \"change, transition, and disappearance\" that draws influence from Haydn's Piano Trio No. 40 and her own relationship with her mother, who suffers from dementia. Trio Gaspard was founded in 2010 by members from Germany, Greece, and England.
