Description:
The Golberg Variations have been the subject of many arrangements, and it is interesting to note that in recent years, many of the great names in the world of classical music have taken up the challenge of performing them. Jean Rondeau and his allies, who have been playing the exciting Goltberg Variations on their own Japan tour and on solo albums, are releasing an ensemble performance. Rondeau and Roban Faro, who plays the gamba, were at the center of the arrangement. While Anna Besson's extended traverso is at the forefront, the other members of the ensemble play an active role in many places, and the polyphonic interplay is heard with the three-dimensionality that only an ensemble of different instruments can provide. Rondeau plays two different types of organs: a German model harpsichord, which he also used in the solo recording, and an Italian-style harpsichord. Their original and thrilling arrangements open up new horizons for the work. (C)RS
