The clarinetist Maria du Toit, a native of South Africa, was principal clarinetist of the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra, and is now based in the Netherlands as a soloist and chamber musician. This is her fourth album. This, her fourth album, is an interesting collection of unknown works by female composers. The composers themselves are almost unknown, except for the famous Tailleferre, Bacevich, who has been attracting attention in recent years, Gotkovsky, who is well known to wind instrument fans, and Marie Elisabeth, who is known for her interactions with Brahms and other composers. The nationalities of the musicians are also diverse, ranging from France to du Toit's native South Africa, Nigeria, Latvia, and New Zealand. All of the works are very rewarding to listen to, making the most of the characteristics and strengths of the clarinet. Du Toit is accompanied by Dutch pianist Fela Koper, whose wide-ranging expressive powers allow the musicians to play deeply and expressively. Naxos Japan
