The Deutsche Oper Berlin has a long tradition of presenting Wagner's operas in Japan, including the 1963 Japanese premiere of \"Tristan und Isolde\" directed by Wieland Wagner and conducted by Lorin Maazel, and the 1987 production of the four parts of \"Der Ring des Nibelungen\" (directed by Götz Friedrich). The Deutsche Oper Berlin, which has also made a significant mark in the history of Wagner's works in Japan with its productions of \"The Ring of the Nibelung\" in four parts directed by Stefan Hareheim at the end of 2021, will present a premiere of the new production of \"Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg\" in June 2022. The production by Yossi Wieler and others takes place on the campus of a modern-day music school, moving the stage from the medieval city of Nuremberg to the present day, where Hans Sachs and the other Meistersingers are teachers at the school and Walter von Stolzing seduces the daughter (Effa) of the school principal (Pfalz Pogner), causing an intrusion that disrupts the school's discipline. Walter von Stolzing portrays her as an intruder who disrupts school discipline by seducing the headmaster's (Pfadt Pogner) daughter (Effa). Throughout the play, Hans Sachs, Walter, Effa, and Beckmesser are at the center of the romantic entanglements between men and women, and their subconscious is made manifest in a stimulating stage performance. In addition to Florian Forkt, whose rich lyrical singing has made Walter a perennial favorite, Johann Reuter, who exquisitely plays the bold yet sensitive Hans Sachs, and Heidi Stober, whose cute performance as Effa is remarkable, the ensemble will be joined by a former member of the Deutsche Oper Berlin (ensemble members), Jarzow Huang, who played Mime in \"The Ring of the Nibelung,\" as David, and Annika Schlicht, who played Fricka, as Magda Magda Magda. In addition, Jarzowen Huang, who played Mime in \"The Ring of the Nibelung,\" and Annika Schlicht, who played Fricka in \"The Ring of the Nibelung,\" will play the roles of David and Magdalena, respectively. The two, along with Folkert, Reuter, and Stober, make up a superb ensemble for the famous quintuple in Act III, one of the highlights of the production. Master conductor John Fiore, who has performed in opera houses around the world, leads the orchestra and chorus of the Deutsche Oper Berlin, which have shown an excellent affinity with Wagner's music, in a commanding performance of this great work with an imposing, structured sound and a flexible approach to the singers.
