This is especially true for me,” said renowned conductor Mariss Jansons.\nThis album features live recordings of two Shostakovich works from concerts held in 2011 and 2012.\nShostakovich’s “Piano Concerto No. 1,” officially titled “Concerto for Piano, Trumpet, and String Orchestra,” is a work that also demands virtuosic technique from the trumpet soloist. Shostakovich completed this work in the summer of 1933, just a few weeks after finishing the opera *Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk*, and it is a masterpiece that fully showcases the immeasurable talent of the young, 26-year-old composer. The piano is performed by Yefim Bronfman, renowned for his exceptional technique, while the trumpet is played by Hannes Roibin, a veteran who serves as principal trumpet of the NDR Elbphilharmonie (formerly the North German Radio Symphony Orchestra in Hamburg) and remains active as a soloist today.
