Juzep Carner was sympathetic to Catalan nationalism and contributed poems and prose to many literary magazines. Known as the \"Prince of Catalan Poetry,\" he was also a playwright, translator, and journalist, and was nominated seven times for the Nobel Prize in Literature. He was also active in politics, serving as vice consul in Spain, but during the Spanish Civil War that broke out while he was away from his native country, he pledged allegiance to the Second Republic and never returned to his native country under Franco, ending his life in Brussels. The lyrics of the songs are all by Carner, and the composers include some of the leading figures of modern Spain, such as Montpauw, Tordola, and Rodrigo. The songs, written by composers who share the same lyrics as the poems on this album, are an anthem for human beings, and they are also very much in tune with the anxieties of today's society. Dávito Alegreto sings with a gentle voice, and Fernández Aguirre on piano responds with exquisite sensitivity.
