Description:

Nils Rossing-Skow is a composer who studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Music. Influenced by Grisey, Murail, and Xenakis, Nils Rossing-Skow sought to incorporate styles from a variety of genres in his compositions. He was especially attracted to the sounds of modern French works, and blended them with Scandinavian imagery to create a series of sometimes rough, sometimes delicate music. The album contains three concerto pieces and two chamber pieces, all of which are intimate dialogues that make the most of the individual instruments' timbres. Episodes from a Concerto was composed in 2004 and premiered by the Danish National Orchestra before being reconfigured in 2020 into a smaller orchestra in response to the lifestyle changes caused by the Corona Disaster. The impressive saxophonist is Janet Balan, the premiere performer of this piece, who is active in many fields, especially in Denmark. She has participated in recordings such as Rossing-Skow's "Alloy" (8.226580) and Rasmussen's Saxophone Concerto (6.220506). Naxos Japan
