He is the great-grandson of Christopher, the younger brother of “William Wordsworth (1770–1850),” who served as Poet Laureate from the 18th to the 19th century. He composed works celebrating the grandeur of nature, evoking the styles of Vaughan Williams and Sibelius, and enjoyed a mutually inspiring relationship with his contemporary, Edmund Rabl.\nThis fourth volume features four works. The earliest, “Jubilation,” was composed in 1965. As the title suggests, it has a vibrant, cheerful atmosphere, with brass instruments taking center stage at key moments. The “Spring Festival” Overture, written in 1970, was commissioned to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the large-scale “Pitlochry Festival Theatre” in Scotland. Like spring, when all things grow, it is a lively work in which musical ideas flow forth one after another. The 1976 “Confluence: Symphonic Variations” showcases Wordsworth’s skillful talent for orchestration. Furthermore, his 1980 “Symphony No. 7,” which reflects his contemplation of the origins of the universe—a subject that had fascinated him since his youth—is a single-movement work consisting of seven seamless sections, with the use of the harp and celesta lending the piece a mystical atmosphere.
