It offers a glimpse into the music popular at the courts of the time, featuring composers such as Josquin des Prez, Nicolas Gombert, and Ioannes (Johannes) Mouton.\nOksenkun was a lute player in the service of Otto Heinrich, Elector Palatine. While lute arrangements (intabulations) of the time typically reduced polyphonic music to two or three parts, the lutenist Arend and the singer Christoph Brümester believed that Oxenkun’s arrangement lent itself well to the addition of vocal parts, so they independently added vocal parts of their own.
