It features his Symphony No. 8 (1890 version), often considered his masterpiece. Poshner adopts a brisk tempo, bringing the entire work to a running time of approximately 77 minutes. While the performance is tight and focused overall, the orchestra’s rich, full-bodied sound in the first and third movements ensures it never feels lightweight. Other hallmarks of this performance include a wide range of dynamics and tempo variations, as well as an emphasis on passages resembling folk songs and ethnic dances that appear throughout the work. One can also discern unique artistic touches, such as the way the wind instruments are brought to the fore.
