The following Symphony No. 1, composed when the composer was just 18, is characterized by skillful orchestration that reveals his precocious talent and a refreshing musical concept brimming with youthful energy; Shehata performed it with both freshness and powerful expression. The passionate climax of the “Bacchanale,” which closes the album, is also truly magnificent.
