Compared to the other works in the *Ring* cycle, this piece features a compact cast of eight characters. It is a rich and fulfilling work with many highlights, including its intricate character portrayals and the masterful scene transitions—from a cave in the forest to the depths of the woods, and on to the rocky mountains.\n\nLike the previous two productions, this Sofia National Opera production of *Siegfried* is characterized by a pop-inspired staging concept. Lighting dominated by red and blue, interspersed with mysterious geometric patterns and cones, transports the audience to another world.\nThis production once again brings together a cast of talented Bulgarian singers clad in costumes reminiscent of characters from special-effects monster movies. Martin Iliev, the accomplished tenor who sang Siegmund in the previous production of *Die Walküre*, takes on the title role of Siegfried, the Wanderer\/Wotan is played by veteran Martin Tzonev, replacing Nikolai Petrov from the previous two productions; and Mongolian soprano Barasgalan Dashinyam, who sings Brünnhilde, delivers a performance so powerful it seems to shake the earth.
