The Violin Concerto No. 2 was composed in 1997 and revised in 2003; it adopts a classical three-movement form, with virtuosic cadenzas in the first and third movements. Yulia Pushker, a prize winner at the 2019 Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition, delivers a performance that beautifully captures the piece’s dynamic contrast. The orchestral work titled *Matka* (Finnish for “Journey”) is a kind of symphony written to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Sibelius’s birth.
