Highlighted by the world premiere recording of Alessandro Scarlatti’s chamber cantata *The Death of Nerone*, the program spans a wide range of works—from the first half of the 17th century (including Monteverdi and Monari, also making their recording debuts) , extending to a cantata Handel composed in Italy during his youth—which tells the story of Agrippina, Nero’s mother, consumed by love for her son and a thirst for revenge. Although Arcangelo performs in a small trio-sonata ensemble, the continuo section includes the theorbo and harp, and their rich, varied sound creates a perfect collaboration with Lindsey’s distinctive, memorable voice.
