Since that tuning method used an unequal temperament—in which the intervals between notes were not uniform—it was, in fact, different from “equal temperament,” which divides an octave into twelve equal parts.\nIn *The Well-Tempered Clavier*, Aaron Pilzan’s first release on the ALPHA label, he remains committed to this “unequal temperament” and, working with a tuner, has fine-tuned the instrument to achieve the ideal tuning. The effect is striking from the very first piece, the Prelude in C major, producing an exceptionally beautiful and pure tone.
