French-American cellist Sonia Wieder-Atherton, who won the Rostropovich International Cello Competition at the age of 25, has re-released on ALPHA her classic album "Jewish Songs" (14 tracks/15 tracks including a different version of "Kol Nidre"), which was released on the ADDA label in 1989 and marked a turning point in her career. The famous "Jewish Songs" (14 songs/15 tracks including a different version of "Kol Nidre" at the end), which was released on the ADDA label in 1989 and became her turning point, has been re-released several times on different labels, and now appears on the ALPHA label in the form of three Ravel songs recorded on RCA in 2006. The great attraction is Wieder-Atherton's sculpted phrasing and the gently cuddling piano of Daria Ovola, who died in 2017. The booklet features works by Colette Brunschwig, a French painter with whom Wieder-Atherton interacted and who was greatly influenced by Chinese ink painting. Naxos Japan
