Eventually, the war ends, and Ito visits Manchuria once more as a member of the Japanese peace delegation, where he reunites with Kacharov and Lydia, but...\n\nThe operetta *Spring Storm* by Jaromír Weinberger—who was born in the Czech Republic and worked in Germany and the United States—premiered in Berlin in 1933, the year Hitler came to power. However, its run was short-lived, as the Nazis banned further performances, and the score was almost entirely lost. For this production by the Berlin Komische Oper, Norbert Biermann reconstructed and arranged the work based on the piano score and surviving parts. Directed by Barry Kosky—one of the world’s most sought-after directors today, who staged *Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg* at the 2017 Bayreuth Festival at the invitation of Katharina Wagner—this revival of the work, the first in 87 years, generated significant buzz. Tanzel Akzeybek, whose youthful voice is a delight, portrays the Japanese officer Ito; Vera-Lotte Becker sings and performs the beautiful heroine Lydia with enchanting allure; and the renowned actor Stefan Kurt as the Russian General Kacharov—the production featured a stellar cast of singers and actors from the leads to the supporting roles. Jordan de Souza’s clear and emotionally rich conducting masterfully revived Weinberger’s jazz operetta, which fuses the Central European light opera tradition—represented by composers such as J.
