You can enjoy these works in a harmonious performance by Astrig Shiranoshian and Nathaniel Gouan—who have also performed together at La Folle Journée au Japon—a performance brimming with musicality that perfectly captures the essence of these diverse pieces. The concluding sequence of Glass, Legrand, and Jones is particularly fascinating, as it clearly conveys the influence of Nadia Boulanger, which continues to this day.\nNadia Boulanger’s own “Three Pieces” were written three years before she, too, ceased composing following the death of her younger sister Lily—who was six years her junior and held her talent as a composer in high regard. The pianist here is the master Daniel Barenboim, who was himself a student of Nadia Boulanger.
