Nadia Boulanger is one of the greatest music educators of modern France. Her students and the musicians who befriended and were influenced by her transcended nationality and affectionately called her \"Mademoiselle\". In addition to Stravinsky, whom she held in deep esteem, her teachers included Piazzolla, who felt limited by the closed world of tango and tapped its door; Carter, who later developed his own personality through the twelve-tone technique; Glass, who established his lyrical style through minimalism; and Legrand, a rare melody maker who worked in jazz and film music, Quincy Jones, who has left his mark not only on jazz but on popular music as a whole, is known for teaching the fundamentals of music and planting the seeds for a wide variety of artists. These works will be performed by Astrig Syranosyan and Nathanael Gouin, who have performed together at La Folle Journée au Japon, in a synchronized performance that captures the heart and soul of these diverse works. The last, Glass, Legrand, and Jones, is very interesting as it conveys well the influence of Nadia Boulanger that continues to the present day. Nadia Boulanger's own \"Three Pieces\" was written three years before the death of her sister Lily, six years younger than her, whose talent as a composer was highly regarded, and three years before Nadia also broke her compositional brush. The piano here is played by master pianist Daniel Barenboim, himself a student of Nadia Boulanger. The clear tone of his unique parallel string piano, developed with Chris Marne, who is also known for his collection and restoration of fortepianos, and his gentle and delicate touch support Silanosian's cello and add to the beautiful work left by his former teacher. Although Astrig Syranosyan participated in the Mendelssohn album (ALPHA 410) by his sister Shushanu Syranosyan, this is his first solo album on the ALPHA label.
